Introduction

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, formerly Miami Children’s Hospital, is a world leader in pediatric healthcare. With a medical staff of more than 650 physicians and over 3,500 employees, the hospital is renowned for excellence in all aspects of pediatric medical care from birth through adolescence. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital offers more than 40 pediatric specialties and subspecialties and is home to Florida’s only free-standing pediatric trauma center. The hospital draws children from all over the world and is the only medical facility in South Florida that is dedicated exclusively to children. Offering hope to parents whose children have seemingly insurmountable problems, we reach out to secure the health of children in our community and throughout the world.

Patient Services

We provide patients with:

  • Around-the-clock access to a Global Health staff and physicians who will help coordinate the child’s treatment through careful review of medical records for coordinated plan of care
  • Critical care transport from LifeFlight® or other air ambulances
  • Assistance for families in coordinating visa and immigration requirements as well as travel and accommodation
  • Health insurance verification and cost-of-care estimates

  • Multilingual staff and interpreter services – Spanish, Creole, Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Mandarin, and Russian are among the many languages spoken by our multilingual staff, and we also offer access to translation via telephone for whichever language is needed
  • Specialist consults and follow-up care provided in their home country through our Telehealth Center
  • Daily inpatient rounds by Global Health clinical staff to referring physicians and other referring parties

Additionally:

  • Board-certified physicians representing more than 40 pediatric subspecialties are located within the hospital’s main campus, where they collaborate to provide comprehensive medical care to children with the most complex health challenges
  • Nicklaus Children’s Brain Institute, Heart Program, Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, and Orthopedic Surgery Center are internationally renowned centers of excellence, and many first-in-the-world procedures have been performed here

  • Miami Children’s Research Institute is the largest provider of clinical research services for children in the Southeastern United States and manages more than 200 clinical investigations and research studies across nearly 30 subspecialties, with a focus on cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, oncology, and neurology
  • MCH Anywhere® is our state-of-the-art telehealth program supporting sophisticated videoconferencing, diagnostics and testing, bringing expert care and peace of mind to parents and families – wherever they are, whenever they need us

International Solutions

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is an international leader in medical education at all levels. The Hospital’s longstanding pediatric teaching program (founded in 1958) currently provides training for 84 pediatric residents and 33 subspecialty fellows annually. Some of these trainees come to us from abroad and often continue to seek to collaborate with us after they return to their home countries as alumni. Our Continuing Medical Education Program includes the annual Pediatric Postgraduate Course “Perspectives in Pediatrics,” which has attracted an international audience for more than 50 years.
