Cook Children’s provides numerous services, such as Child Life, which helps kids and families cope with a hospital experience by providing emotional and developmental support, honest information, and activities to help them have fun. We offer The Creative Artist in Residence Programme, The GetWellNetwork, and Nutrition Services. The Cook Children’s “Sibshops” is a unique offering to support siblings of children with a chronic illness or life-changing disability. We constantly work with the family to assess their ability to meet a child’s ongoing healthcare needs. We are specially trained to assist families in times of physical, emotional, and financial stress. A good example of Cook Children’s going beyond what is expected is our GetWellNetwork. It is a computer, TV, gaming system, and patient/family education tool all in one. Located in each patient room, the system educates and entertains patients and families.
Cook Children’s provides translation services to make sure non-English-speaking or hearing impaired children and families understand their diagnosis or treatment. We have Arabic, Spanish and French-speaking personnel on staff and have access to many other resources for any international language. Our patient representatives are available to act as a liaison between our patients and our healthcare organization, including translating medical documents into their native language.
Cook Children’s Hospital has several pediatric specialties to offer, including the Hematology and Oncology Center, where we are working every day on medical treatments and research on the blood disorders and cancers that hurt children and teens. With one of the largest, most technologically advanced pediatric neurosciences programs in the southwestern United States, Cook Children’s is redefining the future of children with neurological conditions. Cook Children’s Hyperinsulinism Center is one of only two programs in the nation and has a distinguished international reputation for providing extraordinary care and achieving positive outcomes. Cook Children’s is opening the doors of a state-of-the-art center dedicated to treating kids with many different conditions of the urinary system and genital tract. The vast technology and expertise available in our Heart Center, combined with the depth of knowledge and skill of our specialists, gives Cook Children’s a superior level of outcomes. Board certification means that the specialist has specific knowledge and skill in a particular area of expertise. To become board-certified in a specialty, pediatricians must pass a rigorous examination and maintain their certification. Cook Children’s Physician Network is made up of more than 300 physician employees who are board-certified in pediatrics. Click here for a list of Cook Children’s Physicians http://bit.ly/2oSlmD4.
