Serving as a hub for international patients, our experienced international patient coordinators help to alleviate the stress and uncertainty that comes with traveling for healthcare, and they provide all of the services necessary to ensure a highly coordinated and reassuring experience. Each patient at the International Patient Center is assigned a primary coordinator who provides a streamlined process for scheduling appointments for both consultations and procedures. The International Patient Center is dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance and support for patients in a culturally sensitive way, beginning well before their arrival in Boston and continuing through to their return home.

Patient Services

Services provided by our International Patient Center include:

  • Coordination of all patient care with Brigham and Women’s specialists for consultation, diagnosis, and medical procedures
  • Facilitation of consultations at affiliated locations, including Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center
  • Arranging interpretation services in more than 30 languages

  • Medical record translation assistance, including timely exchange of medical records to avoid duplication of diagnostic testing and ensure timely scheduling
  • Sharing of discharge plans and direct communication with referring physicians upon completion of treatment
  • Organization of financial and billing arrangements, including estimates and consolidation of invoices from various care providers

Our International Patient Center team is focused on ensuring a comforting experience for patients during their stay. In addition to extensive clinical support, our patient coordinators can assist with:

  • Coordination of travel and transportation, including airport pickup and ground or ambulance services
  • Lodging arrangements for patients and their families
  • Personal escorts to appointments

  • Private duty nurses or nurse assistants for post-operative care at a hotel or other lodging
  • Assistance with specific religious or cultural needs
  • Concierge services for shopping, dining, sightseeing, and Boston-area events

Our International Patient Center provides access to our world-renowned programs led by specialists that provide expert care that encompasses prevention through the most advanced treatments. The many unique collaborative programs that span specialty areas provide highly personalized care for each of our patients. Among our hallmarks are our specialized centers devoted to collaboration in virtually every area of medicine, including the Heart & Vascular Center, Lung Center, Neurosciences Center, Orthopaedic and Arthritis Center, Women’s Health Center, and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center. Together with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, our oncology experts deliver advanced, multidisciplinary, adult cancer care.

International Solutions

We deliver clinical consultations and education through partnerships with foreign governments, in-country health care providers, and educational organizations. We have also formed international research collaborations to improve medical care worldwide. The Brigham and Women’s Hospital staff works closely with referring physicians worldwide to coordinate the care of their patients, with a focus on prompt access to our services and open, interactive communication with referring physicians during each step of their patient’s care.
